As part of our "5 Questions for..." series, we talked to Lorenz Nef about his professional and private interests and the most important lessons he has learned along his career path so far.
A new year, even a new decade has begun. Time for new dreams, new goals and adventures. At Batterman Consulting, the motto is: Dare new things and secure the tried and tested at a high level. That is why the popular newsletter series "5 Questions to" will remain with us this year.
This year's event kicks off with someone who knows a thing or two about dreams and adventure: Lorenz Nef, owner and managing director of Nef Sportwagen AG, which operates the Porsche Center Basel. When he took over the management of the family business with a pioneering spirit in 2014, a boyhood dream came true for him by representing the iconic Porsche brand.
Find out in this interview how Lorenz Nef deals with professional challenges, what his best career advice is and what he is interested in outside the automotive industry.
We wish you many goosebump moments this year - like the ride in a legendary Porsche - that will make 2020 unforgettable.
Mr. Nef, if you had taken a different path when you were younger, what would you have become?
"I did my apprenticeship at a major Swiss bank because I always wanted to work with money. But I've also always been very interested in the optical industry, because of the beautiful designs and the contact with people."
What would you work for free for a week?
"As a leader in a youth camp or as a coach of a junior soccer team. Simply a task that has to do with children or young people and sports. I think it's great when young people are passionate about something and still enjoy small things - especially when you spend time with them."
What was the best professional advice you ever received?
"I was able to learn a lot from my father, both professionally and privately. One important thing he taught me was that, especially in professional life, there are always difficult times when things can develop negatively. But after a difficult time, things always move forward or upward again. That gives you confidence."
How do you face setbacks and deal with difficulties?
"I never give up quickly. I focus on the essentials and always try to do things differently and better. In addition, I'm convinced that you can learn a lot from mistakes and setbacks."
What is especially important to you in your work environment and what is definitely not coming into the office?
"I really enjoy working with upbeat and motivated people who are solution-oriented and don't see problems in everything. I don't like moody people and I stay away from them."
We would like to thank Mr. Nef for his contribution to this article. This interview was conducted in writing.
