What should you do first after receiving the notice?
We recommend that you contact the Regional Employment Center (RAV) as soon as possible. There you will find competent advice and support for your upcoming job search. The RAV has numerous contacts and pursues the goal of integrating job seekers into the labor market as quickly as possible. In addition, registration with the RAV is a prerequisite for receiving unemployment benefits.
It is important not to be ashamed of your resignation! Talk to your family, friends and acquaintances about your resignation and ask if they know anyone who has a vacancy. Word of mouth often pays off in the job search.

If you have any questions about the topic of application documents, our blog post "Common mistakes in job applications" a support.
What can you expect from your boss?
During your notice period, you are entitled to time off for interviews. Of course, you must coordinate your absence with your supervisor and schedule appointments at off-peak times if possible. In principle, about half a day per week is considered reasonable. If you are employed on a monthly salary, these absences are usually even paid.
In addition, you are entitled by law to an employer's reference when you leave the company. If you are not yet in possession of an interim reference at the time of termination, we recommend that you request one so that you can attach it to your application documents. If you are unsure whether your performance has been fairly evaluated, you can read our blog post "Reading job references" for advice.
Where can I find a new job?
There are many ways to find a new job. In the past, job advertisements were mainly published in newspapers. Even today, you can still find the odd advertisement in the print media. However, the Internet now clearly dominates. There are many different online job exchanges that have thousands of job offers. Well-known examples are Jobs.ch, Jobscout24.ch, Indeed or Google for Jobs. In addition, you have the option of looking for exciting jobs directly on company websites or in social networks.
We also recommend that you update your LinkedIn profile and select the "Open for job search" option. This banner will alert your network that you are currently looking for a job. You may learn about exciting offers as a result. On the other hand, thanks to the "Open to Work" function, one or the other recruiter may also become aware of you. From our own experience, we can tell you that we often write to people who have activated this option at the beginning of our direct approaches.
Another possibility is the support of recruitment agencies. In addition to the RAV, there are many private companies that have dedicated themselves to the placement of workers.
